Q+A with Stephen & Nathan of Powder Studio

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your craft. Powder Studio was created by Nathan Tucker and Stephen James in December 2013. Powder Studio is a ceramics studio based in the NoDa Historic Arts District of Charlotte, NC. They create handcast porcelain jewelry, homewares, and lighting fixtures in small batches meant to be used and enjoyed in everyday life - "This ain't your grandma's fine China!" Where do you draw energy and inspiration for your work? In our overall creative concepts and design of work we pull inspiration from Outer Space – how could you not be inspired by the vast, beautiful, unknown universe?! We pull from pop- culture references like space crafts to the very literal phases of...

Meet Katy Mashburn of On a Limb Creative

Hello everyone! I'm Katy Mashburn the designer + maker behind On a Limb Creative.  From as far back as I can remember, I have had an obsession with jewelry. It's what I always notice first about someone's outfit. Clothes may grow tighter or wear out, but a nice piece of jewelry can last more than a lifetime. My educational background is in graphic design, which definitely plays a part in my aesthetic. It's one of the reasons I love creating this company. Designing the logo, website and packaging is part of the fun. I have created every part of this project myself and I have truly enjoyed the process from start to finish.  I draw a lot of inspiration from...

This may not seem like a nobel prize worthy goal, but it is my way of sharing my abilities with the world. I don’t know much in this life, but I do know that I am constantly bombarded with ideas of how to make things more delightful to look at, more enjoyable to...

Behind The Scenes with Abstract Artist Christina Eve

I’d never be a visual artist if I was not first a musician. I have a deep love of music, especially how a good song grabs your heart and expresses emotions you didn’t know you had. I have a degree in music so I can get pretty excited about music theory, too. But I experience another dimension of music. As a synesthete, I’m also enamored by the visual beauty. Sound reveals shimmering lights and geometric textures in bright colors, and light and dark swell and spin around each other. Even beyond the unseen colors in sound, there are many hidden things in this world. Invisible, inaudible life is everywhere. As a visual artist and one who sees the hidden, I...
